Nail Strengtheners For Brittle Nail Syndrome

Nails are made of keratin fibers rich in cystine and sulfur. Very hard, they have a water saturation of about 18%, if the water level falls below 16% your nails become brittle and break, if the water concentration is higher than 30% they become soft.

You nails react to poor treatment and to aggression from the environment. Their beauty depends on a balanced nutrition.

Thus brittle nails often indicate a deficiency in cystine, even sometimes a more general lack of vitamins A, B or E, iron or calcium. If your nails are fragile and break easily, or if they split, boosting your intake of vitamins and minerals beneficial to hair and nails is highly recommended.

Everyday care:

It is better to file nails than to cut them. Metallic files are much too harsh on nails and damage keratin. They should be shunned in favor of emery boards They should be shunned in favor of every boards. Choose a file that is sufficiently long and wide for easier handling.

Water makes nails more fragile and breakable. To prevent this problem you should consider wearing gloves whenever your hands need to be in water for long periods of time (ex. washing dishes or household cleaning.)

Do not over use chemical nail strengtheners, as they can, if used too often harden your nails to such extreme that they would break more easily. You can alternate products, use sometimes a strengthener, sometimes a hydrating base.

Do not over use nail polish, in particular the quick dry kind, it can dry nails too much. Before applying polish to your nails apply a base coat to protect them.

Acetone based nail polish removers are very harsh on your nails, avoid them and set your preference on softer removers that do not contain acetone.
