Asking around to your new coworkers is a great way to narrow down where to look for a new stylist. This way you know a little history on the salon and who to go to and who not. The hard part can be if you don't know anyone yet and work hasn't begun because you may not be able to get any references.
Depending on how bold you are, you could always walk up to someone on the street who has a hair style you like and ask them where they got it done. Obviously, this isn't for the weak of heart, but we are talking hair here people and in desperate moments you have to be willing to talk drastic action. If you ask enough people and start to hear a few of the same recommendations, then you know that you have found a salon that does good work and will just need to narrow it down to your favorite stylist.
If it is your first time in a new salon, make sure that you don't decide to do anything too drastic with your hair. Just get a trim and see how professional they are and how the ladies leaving the shop look after their cuts. This way you don't go in to touch up some highlights and end up having a nightmare hair color that complete destroys your look. Slow and easy is the best.
Don't be afraid to tryout a couple places until you find your perfect stylist and salon. It is worth it to take your time, be selective, and make sure you have found the right person for your hair.
